Shonnelle Thompson Dirbidibi

I am a proud mother of two beautiful little girls. I am also a proud Lardil and Waanyi women. I love my Culture it makes me proud to be from Mornington Island.

I was born on Mornington Island in 1991. My Mother is Gwyneth Thompson and my Father is Michael Dugong. I grew up in Mornington all my childhood. My Culture is very important to me. I grew up dancing and knowing the traditional dance and history.

My Language name is Dirbidibi. It means the River Rock Cod. It was given to me by the late Gordon Watt.

My Father’s country is Sandlewood. A very beautiful country.

Knowing and learning more about my culture just encourages me more to help the youth in our community to engage more and to pass my knowledge down to my girls so they know the history.
